Designing the GUI

03 January 2008 by Administrator

Happy new year everyone, I hope you all enjoyed the holidays, I know I did!

The majority of us are now all back in the office, slugging away to make our next game the best we've ever done, so all you lucky people can enjoy the very best that our future games will have to offer! And on that note, I'd like to have a quick chat about what I'm currently working on for the sequel to MotorStorm: the GUI (Graphical User Interface). We've been working on the design of the GUI for several months, taking what we did for MotorStorm and throwing it out the window, completely starting from scratch.

We've approached the design of the GUI from a fresh angle and I think we've come up with something pretty impressive, both functionally and artistically. At the moment we have a solid design and a basic, functional GUI comprised of placeholder art and text, nothing to write home about! However, we are just about to get started on implementing the incredible art that the Graphic Design team has come up with so we can start getting a real sense of how the GUI will finally work, both visually and functionally. Unfortunately I can't go into any more detail than that at the moment, but I'll be writing more on this as we move further along in development.

Great to hear guys, although does that mean we won't be seeing it out this year?

Cool to hear you guys are working on the sequal to Motorstorm. Can't wait to see what the finished GUI will look like. As long as I don't have to wait for the thing to load :P

I'm happy to hear you've started work on the sequel. Motorstorm always had great playability, but I now have a Dualshock 3 and it feels fantastic.

One request. Please include 4 player split-screen. Online is fun, but nothing beats the camaraderie of racing against real-world friends in the same room! On games nights I've demoed the game to mates who have loved it, but the game is soon changed because we cant compete.

Of course split-screen graphics would take a hit, but that's fine! It's a fair trade to be able to play one of the most manic, most FUN racing games against your threats.

All the best

I am so looking forward to the sequel! I love Motorstorm still to this day and have to agree it is much better with rumble.

I have a couple of suggestions for the sequel:
1) It would be cool to have weather patterns (ie: start a race with the track dry and half way through the race it pours making everything muddy, changing the race)

2) It would be cool to have larger tracks with possibly point A to point B racing (such as a long Dakar style race across the desert). Maybe even have that race as a way to get to other events.

3) Night races need headlights on the vehicles that actaully cast beams of light

Faster load times would be great in the sequel. Please make use of the Bluray disc and make the sequel huge right out of the package.

Can't wait to see some screen shots of the sequel.

Keep up the great work!
JD

I can’t wait for mororstorm 2. The A.I is great in the original. It just needs a few more race modes and such. Just take a look at the background video in motorstorm. Things like a stunt mode, destruction derby, a drift comp and even proper motorcross with bikes and ATV's. The vehicles in the game are perfect for all of this and I believe the bikes feel better than an actual sim like MX vs ATM: Unleashed.

It would be great if all of this were in the game. A complete off road package!
